The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons as a young performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy category. The traits she displayed were normal for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen entered this loving refuge within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift to perform. As a result, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting in her home country. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theater and singing.
